Dr. George P. Philippidis is Associate Professor at the Patel College of Global Sustainability with a joint appointment at the Department of Integrative Biology. He is a Fulbright Scholar and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He possesses a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of Denver. He has authored numerous publications, book chapters, and 11 patents in clean technologies and has developed graduate courses in renewable energy and sustainability.

Dr. Philippidis has long experience leading strategic business units in the private sector, directing research in the public sector, and teaching sustainability and mentoring students in academia. He started his career at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Denver, where he directed applied research in biofuels in collaboration with the private sector. He then accepted a leadership position at a subsidiary of Thermo Fisher Scientific, a Fortune 100 company, in Boston, where he directed development and commercialization of composite materials. Subsequently, he joined the Applied Research Center in Miami to create and lead its energy business.

At ±«Óãtv, Dr. Philippidis directs technology development and commercialization to help make society and the economy sustainable and circular in partnership with industry and government agencies. His applied research focuses on the nexus of energy and biotechnology by investigating the production of low-carbon fuels and products from algae, biomass, and oilseed crops. He has been a partner in a venture capital firm, has founded start-up companies, and has been advising companies and government agencies, including the US State Department, the US Department of Agriculture, and the Organization of American States.
