Professor Emeritus Richard Gitlin awarded IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal
The 2025 IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal for exceptional contributions to communications and networking sciences, often considered the “Nobel Prize” for communications technology, has been awarded to Distinguished University Professor Emeritus Richard D. Gitlin, a professor in ±«Óătv’s Institute for Advanced Discovery & Innovation.

Two ±«Óătv faculty members named NAI fellows
Two ±«Óătv faculty members, recognized for their groundbreaking discoveries and innovations in chemical engineering to treat cancer and other challenging diseases and nanomaterials engineering for multifunctional manufacturing applications, are among the 2024 Fellows selected to the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Election to NAI Fellows is the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.

Levi Thompson Named College of Engineering Dean
The ±«Óătv announced the appointment of Levi Thompson as the new dean of the College of Engineering. Thompson is a highly accomplished researcher who brings strong leadership and administrative experience, including most recently serving as the College of Engineering dean at the University of Delaware and previously as a faculty member at the University of Michigan.

±«Óătv faculty Daniel Yeh and Jody Harwood have been awarded the 2024-2025 ±«Óătv Microbiome Research Award for developing sustainable wastewater systems for lunar habitats. Their innovative project combines environmental engineering and microbiology to tackle waste treatment in space, with potential applications for Earth.
