±«Óãtv Civil & Environmental Engineering teams won the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) Student Design Competition

Two ±«Óãtv Civil & Environmental Engineering teams won the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) Student Design Competition at the Florida Water Resources Conference held May 4-7, 2025 in West Palm Beach. The teams were advised by Professors Sarina Ergas and Tom Cross. 

  • ReNew Engineering, consisting of, Regina Demechko, Santosh Jagan, Nicholas Moran, Garrett Rolle and Chase Royall, redesigned the sludge drying facility at the Tippin Water Treatment Plant, including a land swap with Rogers Park Golf Course and redesign of the course.
  • SustainaCore, consisting of Ochithya Fernando, Isabella Guzaldo, Schuyler Jones, Adriana Mayr Mejia and Isaac Washington, evaluated eleven different alternatives for producing Class A biosolids for the Howard F. Curren Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant, recommending a solar thermal pasteurization facility. 

Many thanks to the clients, the City of Tampa, and the mentors for the teams. We are looking forward to the national competition at the Water Environment Federation national meeting in Chicago in the fall.
